The 2018 Academic Policy Committee elections are coming soon!
Three seats on the Academic Policy Committee (APC - the governing board of Rilke Schule) will be filled at our annual election on Thursday, February 15, 2018.
Joining the APC is an excellent way to get involved in our fantastic school.
APC Member Expectations & Responsibilities
This description is only intended to give interested candidates an idea of what is expected, but it is not complete. It is expected that APC members will attend all scheduled APC meetings (once or twice per month, sometimes more frequently). Meetings last approximately two and a half hours, but sometimes go longer. Members are also expected to participate in APC subcommittee work in addition to serving on the main committee.
Members should be prepared to discuss and keep confidential matters related to budgets, facilities, personnel, and other issues that arise through committee work. Previous public board experience is extremely helpful. A background in accounting, finance and/or grant writing is extremely helpful. APC members must listen and consider a variety of opinions and ideas as a representative of the school community.
APC members will vote and defend their considered opinion as active board members. The Rilke Schule APC is a public board and is subject to state laws regarding public meetings and voting Please visit rilkeschule.asdk12.org for more information about the APC.
NOMINATION DEADLINE: Due by Monday, January 29 at 5 PM. Please submit a brief letter of intent to the election committee chair by this date and time (firstname.lastname@example.org). Nominations after this point will not be accepted.
CANDIDATE BIO: Due by Wednesday, January 31 at 5 PM. Please email a photo of yourself and a Word document to the elections committee chair outlining your 1) educational and professional background, 2) skills or experience applicable to serving on the APC, 3) the reason you’re interested in serving on the APC.
CANDIDATE MEET & GREET: Date and time TBA. Stay tuned for the opportunity to meet the candidates.
APC ELECTION DAY Thursday, February 15: In-person voting will be conducted from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm Alaska time in the Rilke Schule lobby, and absentee voting ends at 5 pm Alaska time. Results will be announced during the annual meeting this evening from 6 to 8:30 pm, and the new committee members will be seated.
